• Restoration of Crookham Court in Thatcham

We are nearing completion of restoring the architectural stone work in Crookham Court, a large old country house in Thatcham near Newbury, West Berkshire. We started this work in April 2016 and have had a full team on site since then. We have had to set up our own workshop on the site.

Our specialist equipment on site includes a 1000mm cutter with a diamond tipped blade and a water spray for lubrication.

    The work has included…

    • Reducing the size of the building (moving in one wall by a metre).
    • Repointing the entire building in lime mortar (no cement has been used in the project as it is too soft and will crack under the weight of the heavy stone work).
    • Removing pieces of the stone work (using a crane to move them around) for working (not carving) and cleansing before reseting them.
    • Removing, repairing, cleaning and replacing the stone steps.
    • Repairing the foundations.
    • Repairing, cleaning and replacing the cornice and quoins.

Below is a gallery showing the work in progress…
